Butter, on the other hand, is built for planning, running, and recapping engaging and interactive collaborative sessions. We focus on empowering facilitators, trainers, and hosts by giving them all the tools they need to engage participants in one place.
You can set up your agenda and tools in advance, create tons of engagement during your session, and then recap your sessions instantly. Teams also have one workspace to collaborate, share templates, and access recaps for all their sessions.
How is a free workspace different from a paid workspace?
In Butter, you have the option to have a free or paid workspace.
With a free workspace, you can invite up to 5 free team members to join you, build up a shared library, start collaborating in rooms, and more. Your sessions can run up to 60 minutes and have 20 participants max - and your workspace gets 1 hour of recording monthly and a recap history limit of 7 days.
All members in your Free workspace will be added as Admins. You can upgrade your workspace to Starter or Unlimited to manage user roles.
With a paid workspace, you can choose between a Starter or a Unlimited workspace. You can have only up to 10 members in a Starter plan. You can also manage workspace roles (i.e. workspace admins), manage content (i.e. team library items and recaps), record your sessions, and brand your sessions with your team’s logo in both plans!

How do I upgrade to a paid workspace?
To upgrade, go to the Plan & billing tab in your Workspace settings. Select ‘Manage subscription’ to upgrade your workspace.
Do you give discounts to education or non-profit organizations?
Yes! We offer 30% off to schools, universities, and non-profits. Apply for our Education & Non-Profits Program to request a discount.

How long is the free trial? What happens when it ends?
We have a free 7-day trial for the Butter Unlimited plan only for new users who’ve created a workspace, which comes with unlimited time in group sessions, cloud recording, and your own logo in-session! 💪 You can extend this by completing our ‘extend trial’ checklist!
If you don’t want to purchase Butter paid plan at the end of the trial, you’ll automatically be downgraded to our free workspace. 😅 It comes with a 60-minute time cap for up to 20 participants max, only 1 hour of recording monthly, and a 7-day recap history limit.
What are my payment options?
When you upgrade to a paid workspace, you can choose to be billed monthly or annually. When you select annual billing, you will save the equivalent of 3 months compared to 12 months on monthly billing.
You can switch at any time from the Plan & billing tab in your Workspace settings.
What happens if I change my plan midway through the billing cycle?
If you change your plan midway through your billing cycle, the prorated remaining monthly/annual balance will be credited back to your Butter account. Learn more about Butter billing here.
I need something changed on my invoice. Who can I reach out to?
You can change your invoice details directly from the Plan & billing tab in your Workspace settings.
Need to change your payment method or info? Select ‘Change payment info or update payment details’ to update your billing information.
Need to change the invoice recipient? Choose ‘Change your contact email’. The default is set to the workspace owner, but you can change it at any time!

I’m on a free workspace and have several members in it. I want to upgrade my account - what happens then?
When you upgrade a workspace, all members are upgraded to the same plan of the workspace owner. You can choose between Starter or Unlimited, depending on what your workspace needs.
What are the differences between the workspace member roles?
There are three different roles in a Butter workspace, each with their own sets of permissions. The biggest difference is how Owners and Admins can manage the workspace:
Owner: There’s only one owner per workspace. By default, the workspace creator is the owner. If the owner deletes their profile, ownership is automatically transferred to another admin. The owner has all the same permissions as an admin, but they’re the only user that can delete the entire workspace.
Admin: Workspace admins can manage everything in the workspace, but cannot delete it. They can edit workspace settings, manage billing information, upgrade and manage members, and manage the templates and saved items in the team library.
Member: Members have full access to almost all of Butter’s features. They can create unlimited rooms, run sessions, and start sessions from rooms they’ve created or have been invited to as a collaborator. They can’t manage general or billing settings. They can add and edit items in the workspace library, but they can’t delete other people’s library items.

To upgrade, just navigate to Settings > Workspace > Plan & billing, then upgrade to Unlimited plan.
What happens when a free workspace hits their limits?
When a free user encounters the limits of their workspace, they will be notified. We’ve kept these limits simple:
- 7-day recap history limit. To unlock older sessions in the recaps, they will be asked to upgrade.
- Up to 20 participants. To host sessions with more people, they will need to upgrade to a paid plan.
- Up to 1 hour recording monthly for the entire workspace. If they want to record more sessions, they will be asked to upgrade to a paid plan.
- Sessions for up to 60-minutes. The member will receive a notification 10 minutes before the time limit.
How does the monthly recording hours on Free and Starter work?
Free and Starter workspaces will have an accumulated “recording hours pool” based on the number of paid members they have in their workspace. Recording hours will be reset every month.
When the recording limit is reached for Starter workspaces, they will be charged $3/hour for every extra hour of recording.
If you need unlimited recording, go for the Unlimited workspace plan! 😊
Do session participants or co-facilitators have to be members of my workspace?
No! Anyone can join a Butter session. Participants do not count towards your workspace member limits (only your session participant limit).
What happens when I deactivate a member in my workspace?
If you deactivate a member, they will no longer have access to the workspace or any of the content in it (including recaps, templates, rooms, etc). It also frees up a spot for another member.
Deactivated members can be reactivated again if needed.
How do I cancel my paid plan?
To cancel your plan, go to the Plan & billing tab in your Workspace settings. Under ‘Butter Business’, select ‘Manage subscription’ to cancel your plan.
Do you have custom branding options?
You can add your own logo in-session on a paid workspace. This will be visible in your workspace and in the corner of every session you run!
